Performing Arts Studio Unique In Many Ways

Broadway Performing Arts Studios, LLC recently changed locations to expand and continue acting as East Cooper’s only full performing arts facility.
Set up about two years ago by Kirk Sprinkles and Alton Cox, BPAS is the only studio in the area offering classes in all areas of the performing arts; dance, acting and voice.
Fittingly, the staff consists of only three members: Sprinkles (school director and dance instructor), Cox (artistic director and head of vocal and acting programs); and Elizabeth Halajian (ballet instructor).
All of BPAS’s staff has worked professionally and combined, their experience in New York’s Broadway theatre and other national and international productions is extensive, a feature articulated through their classes.
From warm-ups to choreography to private vocal lessons to acting, the instructors boast a New York City style.
“Not only are we the only studio in the area specializing in all three areas of the performing arts, but our classes are also very New York City based,” Sprinkles said. “A college degree and professional background are not required to open a studio, but we have that experience.”
Another distinguishing quality is the studio’s intensive level of training. Classes are meant to prepare students for a professional career, and instruction is highly musical-theatre-oriented.
BPAS offers classes to students aged 4 to adult. However, the average student age group is 14 to 16 years old, differing from the majority of other studios with populations built on children.
“Half of our student base is considering pursuing the performing arts as a career and furthering their study at college, and that’s the type of student we want to cultivate,” Cox said.
Students participate in in-studio performances, allowing them to experience the design and feel of a true New York Broadway production….
