Free classes for boys

Broadway Performing Arts Studios offers FREE dance class for boys ages 5 – 18. Read a recent article published regarding the benefits for boys and dance:

Ballet is not just for girls…some boys are very talented in ballet. Parents must remember that dancing is a physically beneficial activity for both boys and girls. Dancing helps build strength, muscle tone, balance, and coordination. Some boys decide early on that they would rather take dance lessons in a studio than play sports on a field. The following tips may help your son deal with frustrations he may feel as a male dancer.

  • Encourage his motivations to dance.

Your son may be truly talented as a dancer. Encourage him to try several styles of dance to find out what he really loves.

  • Give your son male role models.

Take him to see professional male dancers on stage or rent movies with men in dancing roles. Show him that men really do dance, and they dance well.

  • Compare dance to other sports.

Remind your son that dancing is a physical sport that requires lots of strength.

  • Let him choose to stop dancing.

If your son suddenly begins to struggle with peer pressure, allow him the freedom to try something else. If he truly wants to be a dancer, he will find his way back as he matures.

Recent Success Story

Ryan Clawson, student of Broadway Performing Arts Studios just completed a 5 week summer intensive at North Carolina Dance Theatre in Charlotte, NC after only four years of dance training under the tutelage of Mr. Kirk Sprinkles. At the end of the intensive Ryan was invited by the school director to attend the professional company and school of North Carolina Dance Theatre as an apprentice, on full scholarship. Dreams do come true! Ryan will be completing his senior year of high school in Charlotte while jump starting his professional career as a dancer, quite an accomplishment for someone who started dancing at the age of only 14.

Mr. Sprinkles has groomed Ryan for a professional career over the past four years. “I saw Ryan’s potential from day one and knew he had it in him,” says Sprinkles. “I could not be more proud if he were my own son!”
